Objective
After a course in defensive driving in a motor vehicle, the student should:
Be able to drive with foresight and forethought so that he can avoid dangerous situations.
Have gained an understanding of the forces created when driving and can respond appropriately to unexpected situations
Have realized the dangers of driving and have knowledge of how to respond to changes in weather, road grip, and lighting conditions.
Be able to recognize your reactions to unexpected situations and be able to take the necessary measures to maintain control of the car and prevent accidents.
Have figured out how to steer, brake, turn away from an obstacle, slide, and know what is necessary to regain grip on the road – both on a straight road and in corners.
Know the relationship between speed and braking distance and be familiar with different braking methods and be able to assess what is appropriate in which situations.
Understand what causes poor road grip, e.g. poor tires, water on the road, snow, ice (often ice can form even when the air temperature is above freezing) and loose gravel.
Have found how road grip changes when driving from asphalt to gravel – or vice versa. – have found the difference between asphalt and gravel
Be able to explain the relationship between speed and road surface, the difficulty of assessing the effects of road surface, how to assess hazards, what methods are available to avoid dangerous situations and the importance of following them. He must also be able to explain the functioning of the vehicle's electronic systems.
Understand the importance of proper use of seat belts, head restraints, and child safety devices.
Understand their responsibility towards passengers and that they use appropriate safety equipment.
Know how to stow your luggage and what the consequences of traveling with loose items in the cabin can be. .
Have an understanding of what factors can have a disruptive effect on competence.
Understand the effects of alcohol and other drug use on a driver's ability to drive.

You can register for Ö3 after completing 10 practical lessons with a driving instructor and completing driving school 1.
